Advantech's Commitment to Biodiversity

 Approval Date:April 2023

 Approval Party: Board of Directors

Advantech incorporates biodiversity conservation into the scope of its sustainable policies and utilizes Advantech’s IoT expertise and smart technologies to commit itself to formulating and implementing biodiversity conservation practices at both local and corporate levels within its business operations. In the future, we plan to extend these efforts to include suppliers in our biodiversity commitment. It is expected that all suppliers and partners will comply with Advantech’s biodiversity commitment requirements by the end of 2023.   This Commitment covers the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 9 Industry Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 13 Climate Action, SDG 14 Life below Water, SDG 15 Life on Land, and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals.

 Our Commitments:

 1.          Advantech's global headquarters and overseas subsidiaries are committed to avoiding operations near key biodiversity areas at both global and national levels. We also expect our upstream and downstream value chain suppliers, contractors, and partners to adhere to the same standards.

 2.          Commit to applying impact mitigation principles when operating in proximity to key biodiversity areas. Adhere to the following sequence of measures to minimize ecological impact: avoidance, minimization, restoration, and offsetting.

 3.          When constructing new office buildings, factories, or renewable energy equipment, or when altering land use, it is crucial to commit to preserving biodiversity and adhering to relevant government laws and regulations. This commitment ensures that local ecological habitats and species conservation remain unaffected. Additionally, it is important to assess the harmful impacts resulting from land use changes and develop plans for mitigating or compensating these effects to achieve No Net Loss of Biodiversity.

 4.          Ensure that Advantech's own operations comply with the laws and policies of Taiwan's nature reserves, including nature reserves, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, important habitats for wild animals, and other designated protected areas. Additionally, ensure that overseas subsidiaries adhere to local nature conservation and biodiversity laws and policies.

 5.          Engage in stakeholder consultations with biodiversity-related partners, such as non-profit organizations and academic institutions. Collaborate, promote, and execute ecological conservation and restoration activities for employees and stakeholders. Leverage Advantech's IoT expertise to facilitate biodiversity project cooperation with partners.

 6.          It is anticipated that the biodiversity risk assessment will be conducted between 2023 and 2024. The target year for achieving Net Positive Impact (NPI) will be determined based on the assessment results.

 7.          Aim to fully accomplish the Biodiversity Commitment at all direct operation sites globally by 2030."
